MBCI History
The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indian stands as the second largest among the three federally recognized bands of Choctaws. Covering over 35,000 acres of trust land across 10 counties in East Central Mississippi, the reservation features diverse topography, including lakes and recreational attractions. Activities such as hunting, fishing, and sports are widely popular in the region.
Comprising over 11,000 members. the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians resides in eight reservation communities, namely Bogue Chitto, Bogue Homa, Conehatta, Crystal Ridge, Pearl River, Red Water, Standing Pine, and Tucker. There are Choctaw tribal members who reside in Henning, TN.
The tribal headquarters, situated in Choctaw, serves as the focal point for the MBCI governmental operations. The tribal communities are represented by an elected official known as the tribal council. who diligently work to ensure the needs and voices of the tribal members are accounted for. The Tribal Council convenes in the Tribal Council Chambers at the Tribal Headquarters.
The Choctaw Health Center plays an integral role within the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, and is overseen by medical professionals and tribal leaders. The CHC Governing Board Members collaborate to serve and guide strategy based on the CHC Mission, Vision, and Values, prioritizing the welfare of the Choctaw population.
